Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about booking your NYC private sushi chef experience

1. What is a NYC private sushi chef experience like?
When you book a NYC private sushi chef through sushijoy4u, our team arrives at your home or venue with everything needed to deliver a world-class sushi experience. The chef sets up a dedicated station, prepares each dish in front of your guests using the freshest fish and premium ingredients, and serves a curated menu tailored to your event. It is an intimate, interactive dining experience — like having your own private omakase restaurant for the evening. We handle setup, service, and complete cleanup so you can relax and enjoy.
2. Do you offer NYC at home omakase for apartments and homes?
Yes, our NYC at home omakase service is designed specifically for apartments, homes, and private residences. Whether you have a spacious dining room or a cozy kitchen counter, our chef adapts to your space. We bring all ingredients, tools, condiments, and supplies. All you need is a table or counter area and seating for your guests. We have served omakase in Manhattan high-rises, Brooklyn brownstones, Queens condos, and Long Island homes — no space is too small or too large.
3. What's included in a NYC sushi catering live station?
Our NYC sushi catering live station includes a professional sushi chef who prepares rolls, nigiri, sashimi, and hand rolls in real-time at your event. We provide all fish, rice, nori, condiments (wasabi, ginger, soy sauce), chef tools, and serving trays. The live station is interactive — guests can watch the chef craft each piece and even request their favorites. It is perfect for weddings, corporate events, birthday parties, and holiday celebrations. Setup and cleanup are included.
4. How far in advance should I book a sushi chef for a party in NYC?
We recommend booking at least 1–2 weeks in advance for most private events. For larger events such as weddings, corporate galas, or holiday season gatherings, we suggest 3–4 weeks of lead time to ensure availability and allow for menu customization. If you have a last-minute event, please call us at (917) 669-8585 — we will do our best to accommodate your request based on current availability.
5. What areas do you serve (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island, New Jersey)?
We proudly serve all five boroughs of New York City — Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island. We also travel to Long Island (Nassau and Suffolk Counties), Westchester, the Hudson Valley, New Jersey (Jersey City, Hoboken, Fort Lee, Edgewater, and beyond), and Fairfield County, Connecticut. A travel fee may apply for locations outside central Manhattan. Contact us for a custom quote based on your event location.
6. Do you accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions?
Absolutely. We take allergies and dietary needs seriously. Whether your guests require gluten-free options, vegetarian or vegan sushi, shellfish-free preparations, or have other specific allergies, we customize the menu to ensure everyone can enjoy the experience safely. Please inform us of any dietary restrictions when booking your NYC sushi chef for party, and we will plan accordingly.
7. What do I need to provide for the event (tables, plates, utensils)?
You need to provide tables and chairs for your guests, as well as plates and utensils for dining. We bring everything else — all sushi ingredients, chef equipment, serving trays, condiments, garnishes, and supplies for setup and cleanup. If you are hosting a larger event and need recommendations for table rentals or event coordination, we are happy to suggest trusted NYC vendors.
8. How many guests can you serve for corporate sushi catering NYC events?
Our corporate sushi catering NYC service can accommodate events ranging from intimate team lunches of 10–15 people to large corporate galas of 200+ guests. We scale our chef team, menu, and setup based on your headcount and event format. For boxed catering, we have platters serving 20, 25, 30, and 50+ guests. For live stations, we can deploy multiple chefs for larger events. Contact us with your guest count for a tailored quote.
9. Is there a deposit, and what is your cancellation/rescheduling policy?
Yes, we require a deposit to secure your booking. The deposit amount varies based on event size and service type. Cancellations made more than 7 days before the event date receive a full deposit refund. Cancellations within 3–7 days receive a 50% refund. Cancellations within 48 hours are non-refundable, as ingredients will have already been sourced. Rescheduling is free if done at least 5 days in advance, subject to availability. Full details are provided upon booking confirmation.
10. Can you customize menus and add-ons (hand roll bar, premium fish, sushi class)?
Yes! Customization is at the heart of what we do. We offer hand roll bar catering NYC as an interactive add-on, premium fish upgrades (uni, otoro, A5 wagyu), sake pairings, and even sushi-making classes for your guests. Whether you want a full omakase tasting, a build-your-own hand roll station, or specialty items for a themed event, we work with you to design the perfect experience. Let us know your vision and we will make it happen.
